Curriculum for Quickbooks Desktop online classes

Note: while we do cover the lessons provided each day in the course manual, we are not limited to these topics and regularly expand upon them during each workshop to ensure that all of your questions are answered and your problems are solved.

  • Day 1 - Lessons 1 - 5

    Lesson 1:  Getting Started:  Learn how to easily navigate Quickbooks and how each person can customize and create shortcuts for their own preferences and style.  Learn tips, tricks, and shortcuts.  Learn how to use forms, simplify your data entry, and gain confidence right away that you're doing things correctly.


    Lesson 2:  Learn how to setup your company and/or learn about the choices that were made when your company was initially set up.  Learn how to customize Quickbooks® and how to set preferences that are specific to your company and to your needs.   Learn how to make corrections, fix setup errors, and/or clean up your company without having to start over.


    Topic 3:  Working With Lists:  Add vendor & customer information into Quickbooks® lists; and learn how to fully utilize the customer, vendor, & employee centers.  Learn tips for managing the lists such as: sorting, merging, editing, hiding.  Learn how to add to, and edit, the Chart of Accounts.  Learn how to clean up older or incorrect list items and also how the use of these lists are the key to making Quickbooks run smoothly and efficiently.


    Topic 4:   Working w/Bank Accts:  Understand the difference between writing checks vs. entering & paying bills.  Record bank account entries such as: debit card transactions, hand written checks, phone payments, online banking, and bank transfers.  Learn about the reconciliation process; and learn shortcuts on how to reconcile quickly and efficiently.  Learn how to find reconciliation errors and how to correct them.


    Topic 5:  Using Other Accounts:  Introduction and light discussion on other account types in Quickbooks® such as assets, liabilities, and equity.  Learn how to track and record credit card purchases and reconcile them quickly.

  • Day 2 - Lesson 6 - 10

    Lesson 6:   Enter sales, track accounts receivable, learn how to work with the Quickbooks item list, how to memorize transactions, how to add price levels, how to apply discounts to customers, and also how to record sales for those of you who do not invoice customers.


    Lesson 7:   Receive money and make deposits correctly.  Handle partial payments, overpayments, prepayments, and NSF checks.  Apply credit memos and discounts easily.  Understand the purpose and usefulness of the undeposited funds account.  Learn about common deposit mistakes and how to correct them.


    Lesson 8:   Entering & paying bills.  Learn about different options for handling bills and expenses in Quickbooks; and how to pay bills quickly and efficiently.  Learn how to easily take discounts for early payments, and how to apply vendor credit memos.  Learn the various ways to track your company's expenses, and which option is the most efficient way for you.


    Lesson 9:   Reports: Fully and easily understand the possibilities of The Report menu in Quickbooks.   An in-depth and detailed discussion on the reports menu and the options available to you.  You will also learn how to easily find transactions and gain a better comprehension of the data that you input every day.


    Lesson 10:   Setting up and using Inventory in Quickbooks.  We will demonstrate the proper inventory setup as well as the correct workflow from the purchase order - to receiving the item(s) - to paying for the product.  Easily & accurately make inventory adjustments when & where needed, correct quantity errors, track backorders, and maintain accurate counts and value.

  • Day 3 - Lesson 11 - 15

    Lesson 11:  Track & Pay Sales Tax: Gain an understanding of sales tax tracking and how to correctly report & pay liabilities.  Learn how to properly apply sales tax to a customer and to an invoice.  Learn how to account for multiple tax agencies when and if needed.


    Lesson 12:   Payroll.  We will demonstrate the different payroll options offered by Intuit.  You will learn how to set up your employees and also how to setup your payroll items (those different line items that appear on an employee paycheck).  Learn how to add other additions to, and/or deductions from, an employee paycheck.  Learn how to pay your employees, remit tax liabilities, and how to file your tax forms. 


    Lesson 13:   Estimates & Progress Billing:  Learn how to create estimates and sales orders (aka bids, proposals, or quotes); as well as sub-customers and jobs.  Learn how to save time by copying and/or memorizing past estimates.  Learn how to turn your estimate into an invoice;  in full, or partially (progress invoicing).  Learn about the various project reports as well as job & project status. Learn how to create reports for time and expense tracking; and analyze profitability by job/project, or client/customer.  In Quickbooks Premier or Enterprise, learn how to create a purchase order directly from your estimate or sales order.


    Lesson 14:   Tracking Time & Job Costing:  Learn how to track and analyze time spent on a project, job, or client.  Learn how to use the Quickbooks timesheet (and other time tracking apps) to track your hourly employees and integrate it with your payroll.  Learn how to invoice a customer for time, reimbursable expenses, or mileage.


    Lesson 15:   Customize the Templates in Quickbooks:  Learn how to modify preset business forms & customize invoices, estimates, and more.  Add your company logo.  Create custom fields for your business forms and obtain better detail & analysis in your reports.  Design custom invoices & business forms specific to your company's needs.

Our Quickbooks Classes Online are easy to join

Simply connect to our computer on the day of the training class via GoToMeeting (connection links, instructions, and course materials emailed to you the week before the class), grab a notebook, and follow along with your instructor;  just as you would in a classroom.  Feel free to participate as much as you like, ask questions and for demonstrations, or for any other examples and details along the way.

What do I need to join the course?

The only thing you need is a computer with high speed internet access.  You do NOT need Quickbooks software on your computer during the training class.

How do we communicate during the class?

For the audio and to communicate during the course, you can use: (1) your computer's built-in microphone, or (2) a headset that can plug into your computer, or (3) you can use any telephone and call in (phone number provided in emailed instructions), or (4) you can opt to type your questions into a provided chat box.  You choose which communication method works best for you.

  • What time does the Desktop Edition Quickbooks class begin and end each day?

    Class begins each day at 9:00 am Pacific Time (12:00 pm Eastern time). We end around 1:00 - 1:30 pm Pacific Time, (4:00 - 4:30 pm Eastern time).  Please adjust for your time zone accordingly.

  • Is this an actual class? Or is it a self paced video lesson? Please explain.

    This is a live, instructor-led Quickbooks Online Edition Training Class and is identical in every way to classroom training. You will be sent a meeting link the week before the class meets, along with a step by step manual. On the day of the class, you simply click on the meeting link and it takes you to the Instructor's computer where we will work together on her computer with her sample practice company. If you wish to participate and do "hands on" training, the instructor will provide you with your own sample company with which to play and practice on during the course.  Together we proceed through the training manual and various demonstrations, exactly like a classroom. To ask questions and fully participate in the class, you may use your computer's built in microphone and speakers, or a telephone (a phone number is provided in the meeting link), or a computer headset, or a cell phone headset (that can plug in to your computer), or you can use the chat feature (you can type your questions in a chat box and your instructor will respond verbally). You will be able to hear everyone in the class and they will hear you. You can ask questions during the training in the exact manner that you would in a regular classroom, and we will discuss and entertain those questions as you ask them. It is a completely interactive course and definitely NOT a lecture or a Power Point presentation. 

  • What do I need to join the training class?

    The only thing you need is a computer with a high-speed Internet connection (and the audio as mentioned above). You will be provided a step by step manual at the time you are sent the meeting log-in links that you can use to follow along during the training; as well as great reference tool for after the training class.  You do NOT need QuickBooks software to join the class. We will be connected to and working from the instructor's computer, which has a sample practice company for us to use during the class.  However, if you do have Quickbooks installed on your computer, you can open it during the training and practice along with the instructor for the hands on experience. 

  • Does I need to be on my company file during the class?

    No, you will be linked to the Instructor's computer via a meeting company (GoToMeeting.com) and we will be working through the lessons on his/her computer. 

  • Who will be leading this course?

    All of our trainers are Intuit Certified ProAdvisors (guaranteed); whether it is the in-person class or the Online Class, all of our trainers must pass a series of tests every year by Intuit in order to lead one of our highly acclaimed Quickbooks Training Courses.  All of our trainers have had years of experience in leading this class, whether Online or in-person, so you will be ensured that your trainer will be able to answer any question you might have.

  • Can I work from home? Or do I need to be in my office?

    You can work from wherever you like. You only need a computer, so if you wish to work from home, your office, or from the beach (as long as you have Internet connection at the beach); it is entirely up to you from where you wish to work and log-in to the meeting. This course is a very convenient way to learn and master Quickbooks without having to leave your home or office. 

  • Is there a registration deadline?

    There is no registration deadline. Please note, however, that we are on a first come, first serve basis and we limit the number of attendees in each class so that the best possible individual attention can be given and so we can ensure everyone's questions are answered; so early registration is recommended.


  • I am brand new to Quickbooks. Do you offer follow up training?

    Yes, for those who are brand new to this software; if you feel you would like to take the class again after you've had a chance to practice and work with it, you may join any future Online class up to 6 months after your original training, at no additional charge. Simply email your instructor and let him/her know that you would like to take the course again, and you will be included in the meeting links for the next training class.  We call this our "refresher" course.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

    Your reservation for the course is only guaranteed upon receipt of payment in full. Refunds for cancellations can only be honored if the request is made 7 days prior to the class date; before the meeting links and manuals are sent out. We offer our Online Class once per month, so if you need to cancel, you can be placed the next month's class; no problem.

  • What if I can only attend Day 1 this month and need to complete the other days the following month?

    Not a problem. Just let your instructor know that you need to take one day this month and the second and/or third day the following month, and it shall be done.


  • Are there breaks given during the course?

    Yes, we take 1 break during the 4.5 hour training session; for about 15-20 minutes.
